Valentine’s Day is here and it’s all about showing love and appreciation to partners, family and friends around you. But it’s equally important to be kind to yourself and to practice self-care.
This is especially true for the ones that are single at this moment in time and Valentine’s Day might be a day they would rather avoid and forget about. But take this opportunity to show yourself some love, focus on you, notice the good things that are happening in your life, plan for the future or just make time for yourself. More importantly, this not only goes for the singles but for everyone out there!
Self-care is a way to maintain balance in life and health and it supports overall wellbeing, helps you to support self-confidence and allows us to become more resilient and energized. When it comes to your mental health, self-care can help you manage stress and helps lower the risk for depression, anxiety and hypertension. Even small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big impact. And investing time in yourself isn’t just beneficial for you but also good for the others around you as a loving relationship with yourself can easily transpire onto others.
Just a few things that you can engage with to show yourself some love:
- Go for a walk in nature
- Listen to music
- Connect with others
- Read a good book
- Do some breathing exercises
- Take a long warm bath (maybe with some Essential oils? 😉)
- Engage in an activity you love
- Cook yourself a nutritious ‘real food’ dinner
- Give your self a spa treatment (hair or face mask, paint your nails etc.)
- Meditate
- Give social media (and yourself) a rest
- Shift from ‘doing’ mode to ‘being’ mode
- Go to bed early
And remember, you shouldn’t only practice self-love on Valentine’s Day. Every day is a good day for some self-care and appreciation of yourself.
So don’t forget to tell yourself occasionally ‘I love you’ ❣
